The Kings 2007 first round draft pick, Thomas Hickey, has been claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders, leaving the club empty-handed after losing .
A contraversial pick from the start, Hickey was touted for his leadership and character. He was also maligned as being too small and not talented enough to be drafted #4 overall. Hickey is generously listed as 5’10, 182 lbs. on HockeyDB. Many believed Hickey’s future with the Kings would be bright but would also take years to develop. In the end, however, Hickey failed to crack the Kings lineup and never played a single game for the club.
Hickey played the last 5 seasons in Manchester, the Kings AHL affiliate. He totaled 75 points in that span, including 14 goals.
