One minute Wayne Simmonds was as funny as a TV star. The next, he was sitting in a penalty box wearing those proverbial goat horns.

Simmonds, still glowing in his highlight reel ArenaVision moment Sunday night, was suddenly caught on camera again, this time chewing it up with a Tampa Bay player while an official hovered within hearing range. That earned Simmonds an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which came at a huge cost.

Giving away free passes to power plays is not the way to beat the skilled Tampa Bay Lightning.

Simmonds was in that box for all of 43 seconds before Ted Purcell scored what not only was a game-tying goal for Tampa, but one that ignited what became a 5-1 Lightning-quick thrashing of the Flyers at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

    As both Simmonds & Purcell are ex-LA Kings, I can spell their names…

    That would be Simmonds’ mouth, yes?
    Oh, & did you catch his wink in the penalty box?

      Indeed, thank you! Working fast and furious has its perils. I just took them out. I shouldn’t even try in a headline unless totally necessary. I didn’t catch the wink.
